Turkish Potato Kebab Bake A cozy Turkish-inspired dinner made with seasoned beef kebabs baked over crispy potatoes and onions in a rich tomato sauce. Ingredients Meat Mixture * 1 lb (450g) ground beef * 1 small onion, grated * 1 egg * 4 tbsp breadcrumbs * 2 tbsp finely chopped parsley * 1/2 bell pepper, finely chopped * 1 tsp paprika * 1 tsp cumin * 1 tsp salt * 1/2 tsp black pepper Potato Layer * 3 large potatoes, thickly sliced at least 1/4 inch * 1 onion, thickly sliced at least 1/4 inch * 2–3 tbsp oil * Salt * Black pepper * Paprika Sauce * 1 cup tomato sauce * 1/2–1 cup water Garnish / Extra Flavor * 2x 1/2 bell pepper, cut into larger pieces for garnishing * 3–4 garlic cloves, tucked between the meat and potatoes 🔪 Instructions 1. Preheat oven to 400°F (205°C). 2. In a large bowl combine: * ground beef * grated onion * egg * breadcrumbs * parsley * finely chopped bell pepper * paprika * cumin * salt + pepper Mix really well until fully combined and slightly sticky. Set aside and let chill in the fridge. 3. Thickly slice the potatoes and onions (at least 1/4 inch thick). 4. Toss the potatoes with: * oil * salt * pepper * paprika 5. Spread the potatoes evenly into a 9x13 casserole dish. 6. Add the thickly sliced onions right through the middle of the dish. 7. Shape the meat mixture into long kebab shapes (i used 12 inch skewers) and place them on top of the potatoes and onions. 8. Tuck the 3–4 garlic cloves between the meat and potatoes. Add the larger bell pepper pieces around the dish for garnish and extra flavor while baking. 9. Mix together the tomato sauce and water, then pour over the casserole dish. 10. Cover tightly with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes. 11. Remove the foil and bake another 10–15 minutes until everything starts browning. 12. Broil the last 2–3 minutes for crispy edges and deep color. Notes: These pair perfectly with simple buttered white rice. I usually just make plain white rice and add a little butter to keep it easy. You can also throw everything into a wrap with garlic sauce on top. A squeeze of fresh lemon or lime over the kebabs is seriously so good.
